JOINT
LEADER SARAH JONES LUMMETS OUT OF SPANISH OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
Curtis Cup player Sarah Jones, pictured right, the joint first-round
leader, failed in the end to gain one of the 32 match-play places
in the Spanish women's open amateur international golf championship
at El Saler Golf Club, Valencia yesterday
Sarah from Pennard completed the rain-hit first round with a very
good score of 72 to share the lead with Joan Van der Kraats (Netherlands)
then went out again and took 13 strokes more to get round.
An 85 for a 36-hole aggregate of 157 saw her fail to qualify by
one stroke. A similar disappointing fate befell England international
Fame More who had rounds of 80 and 77.
The only Great Britain competitors who figure in the first round
match-play draw are England's Kelly Hutcherson (151) and the Welsh
pair Kate Phillips (152) and Anna Highgate (153). Report

ORLANDO - With Meghan Riley and Pamela Feggans atop the leader board and
Sarah Coleson running ninth, the Florida Southern women's golf team holds
a first round lead at the University of Central Florida Invitational.
Riley blistered the course on the back nine Monday, shooting 35 to go
with her 38 from the front. That gave the sophomore a one-over 73 for
the day, one stroke better than Feggans, who had a pair of 37s. Feggans
is tied with Miami's Camilla Hilland at two-over 74. With Coleson's 78
and a 79 from Angie Armstrong, Florida Southern shot a 304 for the opening
round, six strokes better than the University of Miami and nine strokes
ahead of third place Rollins. The final round begins Tuesday morning shortly
after 8:00 at Stoneybrook Country Club.

VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT FOR DIAGEO CHAMPIONSHIP AT GLENEAGLES
A wealth of golfing talent from the European Tour will visit The
PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles to compete in the £1 million
Diageo Championship. The tournament, won last year by Australian
Adam Scott, has moved from an autumn date in the schedule to a new
prime date in June (19-22 June).
Volunteers assisting at the championship for two days or more will
be provided with a tournament uniform and lunch each day. In addition,
the volunteers will have the opportunity to win a selection of fantastic
prizes via automatic entry into an exclusive prize draw.
Golf enthusiasts who are interested in offering their support over
the championship period (18-22 June) should contact the Golf Office
at Gleneagles on 01764 694360 for further information about the
roles available and additional benefits on offer.
ANZ third round cancelled
Golf around the world seems to offer proof that everybody's weather
is getting worse.
In Texas, the Canadian PGA Tour event had its first round washed
out this week.
In Spain, the Scottish Ladies Golfing Association winter training
squad in the North-east of the country have had pretty poor weather.
Some days they have been unable to golf.
And in Australia - where it is summer time - the ANZ Ladies Masters
in hot and steamy Queensland (usually) has been reduced to a 54-hole
event because of continuing rainstorms. After those players who
had not completed their second rounds on Friday had gone out early
on the third day and done so, the organisers decided that the course
was too wet to stand up to a full day's play.
Julie Forbes from Aboyne and Dale Reid did not survive the halfway
cut at level par. Janice Moodie, Kathryn Marshall, Mhairi McKay
and Catriona Lambert will all be chasing tournament leader Karrie
Webb in her home state in Sunday's final round. Report

JANICE SHARES CLUBHOUSE LEAD AFTER RAIN DELAYS ANZ LADIES DAY
2
Torrential overnight rain delayed the start of the second round
of the ANZ Ladies Masters golf championship by 2hr 20min at the
Royal Pines Golf Club, Queensland, which meant that there are quite
a few players who will not complete their second rounds until Saturday
morning.
The delay means, in effect, there are TWO scoreboards ... one featuring
the players back in the clubhouse with 36-hole aggregates and a
second which gives all the players' overall positions in relation
to par.
Janice Moodie and little-known New Zealander Brenda Ormsby are the
leaders in the clubhouse with completed half-way totals of seven-under-par
137. Report and
