Yesterday's leading qualifier, Stephanie Crolla (Gullane Ladies') , pictured left, completed a notable double today by winning the East of Scotland Girls' Championship at Newbattle Golf Club. Eighteen-year old Stephanie beat thirteen-year old Jane Turner (Glencorse), pictured right, by 5 & 4.
Stephanie, who is going to McLennan College Texas in August, was two up on Jane after four holes with par figures. Jane got back to square when Stephanie drove out of bounds at 5th and the East Lothian girl took 6 to Jane's par 5 at the 6th. Stephanie put her approach a foot from the pin at the 318 yard 7th for a birdie three and remained one up though 8,9 and 10 which were all halved in par. Jane then lost her touch round the greens, and Stephanie won the next four holes, polishing her opponent off with another birdie at the fourteenth. Stephanie was one over par for the holes played.
In the morning, Stephanie beat the defending champion, Laura Aitken (Falkirk Tryst) by 4&3, and Jane Turner beat Sarah Horsburgh (Dunbar) by one hole.
