Ms.
Kirkwood,
Claire Hunter looked out from the first tee at Southern California PGA
Legends Course and said, "Today is the day".
What a day indeed. Claire not only birdies hole #1, she went through the
first 9 holes with 3 birdies and 6 pars to make the turn at 33. Although
Claire made birdies on #10 and #15, her only hiccup came on #13, a double
bogey. Claire posted an even 36 for the back, and a total of -3, 69 for
the day.
During the tour sponsored player dinner, the West Coast Ladies Golf Tour
Director noted to the players that Claire was on the verge of breaking
through with her strong, steady game. We truly believe Claire exhibits
the qualities, consistency, and strengths required to compete on the larger
tours.
Claire will start the final round 3 strokes ahead of the field. A first
place victory would bring her a crystal trophy and a check for $2,000
USD.
After the completion of this event, Claire stated she would return to
Eugene Oregon for a short time, and return for The West Coast Ladies Golf
Tour Event at Cimarron Golf Club, Cathedral City, California, July 29-31,
2002.
