Scottish girls golf last day abandoned
TULLIALLAN'S
Kelly Brotherton won her biggest golfing title todate without having to
play a single shot in defence of her overnight lead in the BP Scottish
Under-21 girls championship at Baberton on Wednesday.
That's because the final round in the 54-hole tournament was abandoned
shortly after 10am when a combination of lightning and flash flooding
forced the Scottish Ladies Golfing Association organisers to call in the
players who were out on the course.
Kelly, only 16 years old with a handicap of two, and the other leaders
after 36 holes were not due to tee off until nearer noon. Miss Brotherton
had two rounds of 69 on Tuesday for a six-under-par total of 138, one
stroke ahead of the title favourite, Clare Queen (Drumpellier) who had
scores of 70 and 69. Heather MacRae (Dunblane) was placed third on 141.
Apart from the main championship trophy, Kelly also won the Menzies Trophy
for the lowest aggregate by an Under-18 years competitor.
