European women's championship
SCOTTISH champion Heather Stirling (Bridge of Allan), Becky Brewerton
from Abergele, Rebecca Hudson (Wheatley) and uncapped Nicola Timmins (Sene
Valley) held the honour of being the leading British players at the end
of the first round in the European women's amateur championship at Kristianstad,
Sweden yesterday (Wed).
All four returned one-over-par 73s to be joint 11th in the field of 105.
Heather had three birdies and four bogeys; Becky one birdie and two bogeys
while Rebecca had a roller-coaster round which included four birdies,
one eagle, five bogeys and a double bogey.
Nicola had one eagle, two birdies and five bogeys.
Lynn Kenny (Stirling University and Dunblane) had a 79 and former Scottish
champion Linzi Morton from Tulliallan, like Rebecca Hudson soon to try
for a tour pro's card in the United States, and 80.
The first-round pace was set by Beatrice Soubiron (France), Dewi-Claire
Schreefel (Netherlands) and Pia Odefey (Germany) on three under -par 69.
Defending champion Martina Eberl from Munich was out of touch with an
80.
