ENGLISH LADIES' GOLF ASSOCIATION
ENGLISH GIRLS' CHAMPIONSHIP OVERSUBSCRIBED
64 girls, aged under 18 on 1st January 2002, from an original entry of
95, will take part in the English Girls Amateur Championship which starts
at Fairhaven Golf Club on Tuesday 30 July. The handicap limit was originally
set at 14 but only those with a handicap of 10 or less will take part
in the Championship, playing two 18-hole Stroke Play Qualifying rounds
on Tuesday.
The leading 32 will qualify for the Championship Match Play (Flight 1),
whilst the remaining 32 will play match play in Flight 2, both finals
taking place on Friday morning 2nd August.
Alexandra Marshall (North Foreland), Champion in 2001 and Sophie Walker
(Kenwick Park) winner in 2000, head the field. Also taking part are the
winner of last year's Under 15 Championship, Katrina Holford (Ingestre
Park) and Emma McBride (Upton by Chester) who recently won the Under 18s
Trophy at the English Ladies' Stroke Play Championship.
