ENGLISH WOMEN'S AMATEUR STROKE-PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP
The first round of the English women's (closed) amateur stroke-play
championship at Whittington Heath Golf Club saw Kelly Hutcherson
(Porters Park) and Kirsty Fisher (Royal Lytham & St Annes) in a tie
for first place with one under par rounds of 71.
Kelly had an eagle 3 at the last where she hit an eight iron to 12
feet and holed the putt. She also had eagle chances at
the par 5 ninth and fourteenth holes.
Kirsty had the best outward half with a one under par 35, back in
level par, she birdied 10, 12 & 15 but bogied the 17th and double
bogied the 17th.
Defending champion Caroline Marron produced a very creditable three
over par 75 with borrowed clubs, her own having not accompanied her
back from a recent holiday in Mexico.
British champion Rebecca Hudson produced a level par 72, out in 38 she
had birdies at the 14th & 17th.
