IT'S A CHLOE v KERRY FINAL FOR THE ENGLISH CLOSED TITLE
It will be a Chloe Court v Kerry Knowles final in the English women's
amateur championship at Littlestone Golf Club, Kent.
Miss Court was five under par when she defeated Alex Keighley by 3 and
1 in the first semi final of the championship which was rearranged for
this venue in August after being abandoned at its original venue at St
Enodoc in the south-west of England in May.
Chloe was two up after three, having birdied the 2nd & 3rd. The
match was all square after 10 holes then Chloe birdied the 11th &
12th
and Alex the 13th to be back to one down. Chloe won the 16th with a
birdie and holed for a two at the 17th to win the match.
In the other semi final, Kerry Knowles was not up until the 18th. She
was three down after the 7th where Nickie Timmins holed from 40 feet
for an eagle three. Kerry pulled back to all square by the 15th. The
16th & 17th were halved, but Nickie was bunkered off the tee at the
18th and Kerry's approach finished within a foot of the hole.
The England international players in the Great Britain & Ireland squad
stayed on in America for the US women's amateur championship and were
obviously not available to play at Littlestone this week.
This in no way devalues the achievement of Chloe Court and Kerry
Knowles in reaching the final of the championship. You can only beat
the players who are there and they have done that.
