Lanark's shaky start to defence of West title
LANARKSHIRE made a shaky start to their defence of the West Division women's
inter-county team golf championship at Cochrane Castle Golf Club yesterday
(Monday).
They lost 5-4 to Renfrewshire after trailing 2-1 from the morning foursomes
and drawing the singles 3-3.
Lanarkshire champion Clare Queen and Fiona Prior won as a lead foursomes
partnership and also as Nos 1 and 2 in the singles line-up but it was
not enough to compensate for Renfrewshire's greater strength in depth
on the day.
Karen Fitzgerald and Jennifer Jenkins were double morning and afternoon
winners for Renfrewshire.
Dunbartonshire & Argyll had a crushing 8-1 win over Ayrshire who did
not field their county champion, Sharon Lambie, in the morning foursomes
which Dunbartonshire & Argyll won 2 1/2-1/2. In the singles, Miss
Lambie lost the No 1 tie by one hole to D&A county champion Claire
McNeil.
West of Scotland champion Anne Laing and Sara Bishop won as a top foursomes
pairing and both won in the singles.
