INTRO
KIRKCALDY player Susan Millar won the Fife women's county golf championship
at Drumoig yesterday (Sunday)for the first time. In an 18-hole final,
played in high winds, Susan beat Jo Carthew (Ladybank), also a first time
finalist, with a par 3 at the 20th hole.
Susan, the No 5 qualifier and a regular member of the Fife county team,
had gone three ahead on the outward half but ran into bunker trouble on
the second nine and Jo, the No. 3 seed, was able to square the match at
the 17th.
Miss Carthew had gone to an extra hole in her morning semi-final when
she won through at the 19th against Fiona Lockhart (St Regulus)in a match
between two players who work at Drumoig. Jo is sales and bookings officer
at the Scottish National Golf Academy; Fiona is administration assistant
at the Scottish Ladies Golfing Association headquarters.
