SHARON McMASTER WINS THIRD EAST LOTHIAN TITLE
FORMER Scotland international player Sharon McMaster (Dunbar)
has won the East Lothian women's county golf championship for a third
time over a nine-year span. Mrs McMaster beat Susan Penman (Gullane) by
2 and 1 in the final at Longniddry Golf Club after beating defending champion
Jayne Smith (Gullane) by 4 and 3 in the semi-final. That had been a restaging
of last year's final in which Mrs Smith won by 3 and 2. Susan Penman had
squeezed through to the final after beating Stephanie Crolla (Longniddry)
at the 20th. Stephanie had knocked out the leading qualifier and 1998
champion Shonagh McEwan (Gullane) at the 19th in the quarter-finals. Sharon
McMaster had previously won the East Lothian county title in 1993 and
1997.
The Handicap Quaich went to Jillian McNicoll (Longniddry)
who beat Megan Barbour (The Glen) by two holes in the final.
