BORDER COUNTIES WOMEN'S COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
TITLE NO 6 FOR JUDITH ANDERSON
Hawick's Judith Anderson won the Border Counties' women's
golf championship for a sixth time at The Roxburghe Golf Club, near Kelso.
She produced some very good golf - only one over par - in windy conditions
to beat three times past champion Aileen Hunter (Innerleithen) by 4 and
2 in the final. Judith was never behind after birdieing the first hole
and was two up at the turn. Aileen three-putted to lost the 10th and went
four down after 12 holes.
Defending champion Martine Pow (Selkirk), seeking a hat-trick
of title wins, lost to Julie Birdsall-White (The Roxburghe) by 2 and 1
in Saturday's quarter-finals. That set Julie up for a semi-final meeting
with Judith Anderson, which Judith won 4 and 2. Aileen Hunter (Innerleithen)
had to go to the 20th to get the better of Louise Fleming (The Hirsel)
in the second semi-final.
