Aberdeenshire Women's County Championship
Cruden Bay
ABERDEEN Ladies player Sheena Wood has become the first player for over
25 years to win the Aberdeenshire women's county golf championship three
years in a row. Sheena, a former international player, came back from
three down after three holes and four down after seven to Julie Henderson
(Inverurie) to score a dramatic win at the 19th in the final at Cruden
Bay yesterday (Sunday).
Miss Henderson was still two up with two to play but finished 5, 6 to
Miss Wood's 4, 5 at the 17th and 18th and so it was down the 19th. Julie
played the better approach shot but it ended up in a greenside bunker
while Sheena's second came up short of the green. Julie came out of the
bunker to 7ft but could not hole the putt for a par 4 and Sheena two-putted
for her 4 to complete a hat-trick of county titles and a fourth success
in the championship in all.
