EWGA appoints Martyn Evans as finance director

EWGA Press release

Martyn Evans, a Midlands-based businessman and accountant,  has joined the English Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) as company secretary and finance director.

Martyn, who has spent much of his career in a manufacturing environment, has a keen interest in sport, including golf and rugby. He is currently working in a volunteer capacity to enable the relocation of Burton Rugby Football Club.

He started his career with British Steel before joining Allied Breweries where, in his last two years, he was financial controller for the Porterhouse chain of restaurants. Martyn then moved to Tomkins, the global engineering and manufacturing group, and was involved in setting up its IT infrastructure.

He spent a decade with Tomkins, almost half of it based in London, and left to return to his Midlands roots. He became managing director of Banro Sections of Walsall, a manufacturing company which offered structural steel products to the building industry. Martyn instigated a management buyout of the company which was then sold on to Kingspan Offsite Profiles & Sections, where he spent two years as finance director.

For the past two years he has been heavily involved in a voluntary capacity with Burton Ruby Football Club. He has created a new company, HC 1091 PLC, to acquire funds from members and the RFU for the relocation of the club. So far £500,000 has been raised to enable 40 acres of land to be purchased.

Martyn, and his wife, a PE teacher, have three grown-up sons: a marketing manager, a physiotherapist and a university student taking a sports science degree.  Martyn no longer plays rugby but continues to referee occasionally and is a member of Lichfield Golf and Country Club. He also enjoys squash, swimming, chess and computers.
