Londoner Jonathan rings the bell in Brazil

The Faldo Series Grand Final got underway at the Itanhanga Golf Club in the Olympic city of Rio de Janeiro with a leading three under par score of 70, achieved by Jonathan Bell.
The 70 finalists had wet conditions to contend with in the morning but Bell reached the turn at three under par 33.
As the clouds cleared in the afternoon the 18 year-old from London completed a back nine of 37 to end up one stroke ahead of the second placed Gregory Eason, from Kirby Muxloe.
Nick Faldo hosted an intimate Q&A session during the evening for all the finalists, boys and girls aged 12 to 21 – including representatives from the UK, Ireland, Russia, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay.
Golf clinics and a skills challenge are scheduled for later in the week.
Faldo commented: “It was great to have the opportunity to welcome such a strong field of talented young golfers to Brazil today and I look forward to watching the tournament unfold as the week progresses.
"Our intention is to offer these young golfers an experience that replicates some of the challenges that they will experience as professional golfers, whilst also offering them an insight into what it takes to compete at the highest level in the modern game. I hope that our efforts can help to prepare them for those realities and wish all of the players the very best of luck for the week.”
The 54-hole R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking tournament is supported by The R&A, the European Tour, Golf Corporate Brazil and the Secretary of State for Sport and Tourism of Rio de Janeiro. In addition to events for the amateur elite that have joined Faldo in Rio this week, there will also be a number of grass-roots activities for local children.
The five category winners will be invited to the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final at Mission Hills in China and the overall boy and girl champion will receive a start in a professional event respectively.
The tournament will be decided on Friday when Faldo will present the Harold Riley Prize to this year’s Faldo Series Champion, following in the footsteps of previous Faldo Series winners, Nick Dougherty, Rory McIlroy and Oliver Fisher.
