Andrea from Surrey ties for 2nd,

leads Murray State to victory


Andrea Downer, now in her fourth and final year at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky, produced one of the best performances of her time in the States to help her college win their first event of the 2009-2010 programme.
Andrea, pictured, a member of Bramley Golf Club, Surrey, had rounds of 70, 77 and 78 for a total of 225 over a par-72, 6178 course at Drake Creek Golf Club, Ledbetter in Kentucky.
That placed her joint second in a field of 58 players.with Gabrielle Anderson (Eastern Kentucky) who scored 74, 76 and 75.
They finished three shots behind winner Emily Wolff (Western Kentucky) who scores 76, 72 and 74 for six-over-par 222.
Andrea's prominent showing - she was the first-round leader - helped Murray State to total 907 and win the team event by nine shots from Eastern Kentucky and by 23 shots fromn third placed Western Kentucky.
Later Andrea was named Murray State University's "Athlete of the Week," topping the poll of all the sports played at the college.
