USC-Aiken after transfer

FLORENCE, South Carolina - The 10th-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken golf team concluded the first two rounds of the Springhill Suites Intercollegiate at the par-72, 7,062-yard Country Club of South Carolina in first place with a total team score of 560.
The Pacers led the event as a team after both round's on Monday. The Pacers fired a total team score of 282 to finish the first round tied with Western Carolina.
USC Aiken then fired the low team round of the tournament so far with a 278 in the second round to end its day four strokes ahead of second-place Western Carolina (564). Georgia Southern is just one back of the Catamounts at 565.
Justin Thomson (North Augusta, S.C./North Augusta) led the Pacers in the first two rounds, concluding the first two rounds with a total score of 138 to sit in a tie with four others for fourth place. Thompson finished the first round with a two-under-par 70. He followed that up with an impressive four-under-par 68 in the second round.
Three Pacers are in the top 12 in the event after the first two rounds with newcomer from Brevard College, Grant Carnie from Ellon, Aberdeenshire, and Kevin Grady tied with two others for 12th place with a 140.
In his first career event as a Pacer, Carnie, pictured above, a former All-South Atlantic Conference golfer at Brevard, carded a two-under-par 70 in both rounds to acquire the two-round tally of 140. Grady shot an even 72 in the first round, but fired off a four-under-par 68 in the second round to sit in 12th place with the 140.
Casey Johnson of Appalachian State is in first place at the event with a score of 136 (69-67). Jayson Judy (70-67) of Elon and Presbyterian College's Patrick Coleman (69-68) are both just one stroke behind at 137.
The 54-hole, two-day Springhill Suites Intercollegiate is being hosted by Francis Marion. The Pacers are six-time champions in the event, having last won it in 2006. USC Aiken claimed the crown in the tournament five-straight times from 1992-96.
The third and final round begins on Tuesday morning local time.
