Jodi Ewart second again - even with an
11-under-par total at Albuquerque
Curtis Cup player Jodi Ewart from Yorkshire, a student at the University of New Mexico, finished runner-up again in her latest US college circuit tournament - despite scoring 11 under par.
She was second in her first event of the 2009-2010 US college golf season, again with a 54-hole aggregate of several under par.
This latest tournament was over her home course in the States - the University of New Mexico's at Albquerque, measuring 6187yd with a par of 73.
It was the quaintly-named Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire tournament and it was won with a 12-under-par total of 207 by Kendra Little (Oregon) who scored 71, 68 and 68. In her final round Kendra birdied the ninth, 11th, 13th, 14th, 16th and 17th - and she had to to hold Jodi at bay!
Jodi's rounds were 69, 71 and 68 for 208. In her final round, Miss Ewart came home in 31. She bogeyed the sixth and then birdied the ninth, 10th, 11th, 13th, 17th and 18th.
Taylor Karle (Pepperdine) was third on 211 with rounds of 71, 71 and 69.
England international Ellis Keenan, a freshman at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, was making her debut in this event, having delayed her enrolment until after she had played in the women's home internationals at Irvine.
Ellis scored 74, 74 and 75 for 223 and tied for 22nd place. She had a double bogey 6 at the 15th in her final round or else she would have made the top 20 - which is a good performance, considering she was completely new to playing golf in the States.
A third English player, Natasha Podmore (San Francisco) tied for 70th place on 232 with scores of 81, 79 and 72.
Pepperdine (859) won the team event frm New Mexico (966) with UNLV third on 883 in a field of 18 teams.
Meanwhile, the Lady Paladin Women's Intercollegiate at Furman University's course in Greenville, South Carolina was reduced to two rounds when bad weather made the course unplayable on the final day.
Ireland's Sinead O'Sullivan (East Tennessee State) finished joint 20th in a big field of 24 players. She scored 82 and 74 for 156 over a par-72 course of 6199yd.
Sandra Changkija (Nova Southeastern) won with a three-over-par total of 147 (75-72) from Germany's Stefanie Kirchmayr (Furman) and Mary Mattson (Campbell), both on 149.
Nova Southeastern (611) won the team event from Campbell University (615) with Furman (617) third and Stetson (618 fourth in a field of 17 teams. East Tennessee State came fifth.
