Charlotte Wild wins Royal
Birkdale Scratch Cup
Charlotte Wild, from Mere Golf Club, Cheshire, will come to Ayrshire for next week's Women's Home Internationals at Irvine Golf Club with some recent winning form to boost her confidence. She won last Friday's Royal Birkdale Ladies Scratch Cup.
Not that Charlotte needs a confidence-booster. She has had a great season.
Charlotte, pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency in action at Royal Aberdeen, 19-year-old winner of the Critchley Salver 36-hole tournament at Sunningdale and the English women's stroke-play title this year, had rounds of 81 and 78 - which suggests it was a bad day weather-wise, for a winning total of nine-over-par 159 over Royal Birkdale's classic links which will stage the Ricoh Women's British Open next year.
Charlotte finished third in the event last year and rates Royal Birkdale as her favourite course in the UK.
She won by a single stroke from West Lancashire player Corisande Lee, who had the best second round of 75, and Pleasington, Blackburn player Nikki Foster who had an afternoon 76, both for 160.
Junior Solheim Cup player and local member Kelly Tidy finished fourth on 162 with scores of 77 and 85
Surprise leader in the event was Catherine Rawthore from Sale ith a first-round 73 but she faded to a 90 in the second round to finish fifth on 163.
