Aberdeenshire girls' championship semi-finals will

have to be switched from flooded Newmachar

Newmachar Golf Club's courses are closed until further notice because of the amount of rain that has fallen in the North-east over the past 48 hours.
This means that Sunday's Aberdeenshire girls' scratch and handicap championships semi-finals and finals - which were due to be played over the Newmachar Swailend course - will have to be switched to another venue, almost certainly a links venue if available, because all inland courses in the North-east will be having flooding problems.
Newburgh Golf Club has been pencilled in as an alternative for Sunday but this cannot be confirmed until organiser Ethel Farquharson returns on Saturday afternoon from a trip to Luton for the 100th birthday celebrations of her one-time neighbour, Betty Garrow.
