Heather Anderson beats Moira Thomson

in final of Scottish seniors match-play

Alyth's Heather Anderson, a former Downfield player, won the Scottish senior women's close amateur match-play golf championship over the Montgomery course, Kinross today (Friday). She beat former Scottish girls champion Moira Thomson (Gullane Ladies) by 5 and 3 in the final with approximately two over par figures.
Moira led only once in the match, with a par at the first hole, but Heather then won four of the next five holes to be two up after six. Anderson took a grip on the outcome when she won four holes in a row from the ninth to improve from two up to five holes ahead.
Anderson, pictured, was the Scottish veteran women's championship at Blairgowrie in 2007 and Thomson is also a previous winner of that over-50s title.
Heather was the last of the 16 qualifiers from the stroke-play championship but she knocked out the No 1 seed, Fiona Hunter (Baberton), by a 7 and 5 margin in her first tie.
Moira had qualified in 10th place and claimed the scalp of the defending champion Lorna Bennett (Ladybank) at the 20th in the quarter-finals.
Today's results
Semi-finals - Heather Anderson (Alyth) bt Alex Glennie (Kilmarnock Barassie) 6 and 4, Moira Thomson (Gullane Ladies) bt Noreen Fenton (Dunbar) 3 and 2.
Final - Anderson bt Thomson 5 and 3.
