3 Irish women's open amateur stroke-play championship
Lisa wins play-off against Hannah
at the seventh extra hole
Lisa Maguire (Slieve Russell) birdied the SEVENTH extra hole of a sudden-death play-off to win the 3 Irish women's open amateur stroke-play championship at Douglas Golf Club, Cork this afternoon.
Fourteen-year-old twin Lisa had led from the start and almost to the finish but was overhauled on the inward half of the final round by Hannah Burke (Mid-Herts), who plays on the US college circuit as a student at Baylor University, Texas.
They tied at five-under-par 214 ... and then began surely one of the longest ever sudden-death play-offs in a British or Irish ladies' event of this stature.
Scotland's Jane Turner (Craigielaw) finished third on one under par 219 with rounds of 70, 73 and 75 over the par-73 lay-out.
Vagliano Trophy team selection Pamela Pretswell (Bothwell Castle) came 10th on 224 with 76, 73 and 75.
Carly Booth (Comrie), after a slow start with a first-round 81, played very well to add scores of 71 and 73 for a total of 225, which earned her joint 11th place.
Laura Murray (Alford) finished joint 15th on 228 with scores of 74, 76 and 78.
