Jennifer on Song in NCAA Division 1

Women's College Championship

Jennifer Song, coming up to the end of her freshman (first) year at Southern California University has taken a two-shot lead with a third-round 71 in the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship and help the Trojans top the team standings.
Song, one of three Southern Cal players in the leading 20, has an even-par total of 216 over the Caves Valley course in Maryland.
Purdue's Maria Hernandez (72) from Spain and UCLA's Maria Jose Uribe (77) from Colombia are tied for second place at 2-over-par.
"We are mentally and physically prepared," Song said. "We've been preparing for this event for one year and all of my team-mates are really ready and pumped up. We've been having a lot of second places and I think this is our chance to win."
Southern Cal had a 26-over 890 total for a one-stroke lead over top-ranked Arizona State in the team event. No. 2 UCLA was three strokes back at 29 over.
"Our overall goal was to improve each day and I know we moved up and are now in first," Southern California coach Andrea Gaston said. "You just have to go out there and play this golf course. If the opportunity for birdies is out there, you have to go get them. We're still going to have to play really great golf tomorrow to win this. We can't just go out and protect this."
England's two representatives in the major event of the women's college golf season are not doing well.
Curtis Cup player Jodi Ewart (New Mexico) from Catterick has scored 78, 73 and 78 for a tally of 229 over a par-72 course of 6,443yd. She is lying joint 41st in a field of 125. Ellie Givens (Denver), English girls champion in 2007, from Darlington has shot 73, 80 and 80 for 233 and a share of 64th place.
