FirstPoint USA to sponsor English
Under-18 girls' championship
NEWS RELEASE FROM ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
The English Women’s Golf Association is delighted to announce that the leading sports scholarship consultancy, FirstPoint USA, will sponsor the English girls’ Under-18 championship. The tournament, which traditionally attracts a full field of the country’s best young players, will take place at North Wilts Golf Club from July 28 to August 1.
Andrew Kean, the managing director of FirstPoint USA, commented: “It will be a great event and we are looking forward to supporting English girls’ golf.”
Mr Kean, a non-executive director of EWGA, added: “These are exciting times for the association and we want to be part of it.”
FirstPoint USA, which has placed thousands of young athletes on sports scholarship, also sponsors two major Scottish boys’ events. The company’s presence at the English girls’ championship will help raise players’ awareness about the scholarship process. It’s an option which an increasing number of girl golfers are exploring and taking up. But Mr Kean pointed out: “We are not trying to increase tourism to Florida! We are very conscious that girls have to be prepared for the academic challenge ahead. It’s full-time education and full-time golf. It’s no good shooting 68s and 69s unless you get the grades - or you’ll be sent home.”
EWGA tournament secretary Emma Lowe commented: “The English girls’ championship is a wonderful event which produces fantastic golf and we are delighted to have the support of FirstPoint USA.”
The EWGA website will feature latest news and online scoring during the championship: www.englishwomensgolf.org
