Whittington Trophy 2009

Lucky for someone

It will be lucky for someone when the 13th Whittington Ladies Trophy tees off at Whittington Heath Golf Club, near Lichfield, in Staffordshire on Tuesday 14th April.
Whittington, founded in 1886, is one of the oldest clubs in the Midlands and its fresh-faced 36-hole strokeplay title is building up a tradition of its own. Previous winners include Melissa Reid, a young Englishwoman now making a name for herself as a professional with the backing of Sir Clive Woodward of Rugby World Cup winning fame and Claire Dowling, a veteran Irishwoman who ended up playing for Warwickshire and was a member of three winning Curtis Cup teams. Sian James, of Bristol and Clifden, is the defending champion and Corisande Lee, an up and coming Lancastrian who recently won the Formby Leveret, is worth keeping an eye on.
There is a strong contingent from Wales, the home international champions, because this is a Welsh Order of Merit event.
