James Byrne 67th in Thunderbird Invitational

Banchory's James Byrne finished joint 67th in a field of 96 players for the Arizona State University Thunderbird Invitational over its Karsten course at Tempe, Arizona.
Byrne, an Arizona State student, had rounds of 72, 78 and 72 for a total of six-over-par 222.
The tournament finished in a tie between Byrne's Arizona State team-mate, Germany's Stephan Gross with 69, 70 and 71 for six-under 210, the same total of Steve Saunders (New Mexico) with 69, 73 and 68.
English student Andrew Cooley (San Diego State) scored 72, 72 and 72 for a share of 55th place on 220.
Arizona State (838) won the team title ahead of Denver and San Diego State, both on 856 and Texas Christian (857) in a field of 10 teams.

MICHAEL STEWART JUST MAKES TOP 30 AT COLUMBUS

Michael Stewart (East Tennessee State), last year's Scottish boys' match-play champion, finished joint 29th in a field of 74 players at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate, played over the Ohio State University's Scarlet course at Colombus, Ohio.
Michael had rounds of 74, 83 and 74 for a total of 223 over the par-71, 7,455yd course - and that's quite a long one!
Brad Wright (Ohio State) won the title with scores of 71, 71 and76 for 218 - two shots ahead of Josh Dupont (Northwestern) with 75, 75 and 70.
Michael's team-mate Seamus Power scored 72, 73 and 76 for a shared of third place with Ben Pisani (Minnesota) (78-71-72).
Two other East Tennessee State students, Rhys Enoch and Paul Kane shared sixth place on 223. Enoch scored 74, 76 and 73, O'Kane 72 75 73.
Northwestern (892) pipped East Tennessee State by two strokes for the team title in a field of 13 teams.

TOM OLIVER MAKES TOP TEN IN INDIANA

Nottingham's Tom Oliver, a student at Purdue University, Ohio, had rounds of 74, 72 and 70 for a total of 216 and joint 10th place over a par-71, 6813yd course for the Hoosier Invitational men's college tournament at IU Golf Course, Bloomington, Indiana.
Spaniard Jorge Campillo (Indiania) won the individual honours with scores of 68, 67 and68 for a 10-under-par tally of 203. He had five shots to spare over runner-up and team-mate David Erdy who had rounds of 70, 68 and 70 for 208.
Indiana (839) won the team title ahead of Eastern Kentucky (866) in a field of 15 teams.

KIRSTY JT 20th IN LADIES' MID WEST SHOOTOUT

Welsh women's amateur champion Kirsty O'Connor, a student at Ball State University, tied for 20th place in a field of 64 at the Ladies Mid West Shootout college tournament at Kampen Golf club, West Lafayette.
Kristy scored 82 and 79 in the 36-hole one-day event. Her total of 161was 14 shots behind the winner, Canadian Maude Aimee Leblanc (Purdue) who had rounds of 76 and 71 for 147 and a two-shot win from Mercedes Germino (Kent State) (74-75).
Kent State (610) won the team event from Vanderbilt (615) with Ball State (624) third of the ll competing teams.

GEMMA JT EIGHTH IN KENTUCKY SPRING INVITATIONAL

Gemma Hardie (Central Arkansas) finished joint eighth in a field of 102 playeres for the EKU Spring Invitational women's college tournament at Arlington Golf Club, Richmond, Kentucky at the weekend. She had scores of 76, 78 and 77 for a total of 231 over the par-72, 5817yd course.
Andrea Downer (Murray State) from Bramley, Surrey finished in a tie for 23rd place on 236 with scores of 77, 76 and 83.
Georgina Hunt (Toledo) (75-74-74) and Stephany Fleet (Eastern Michigan) 75 73-75) tied for victory on seven-over-par 223, finished seven shots ahead of the third-place competitor.
Toledo (912) won the team title ahead of Central Arkansas (919) with Eastern Michian (923) third of 18 teams.
