Scots help East Tennessee State to Hawaii victory

MICHAEL STEWART'S BEST YET IN STATES

AND JORDAN FINDLAY MAKES TOP 20

Irvine-born Michael Stewart, coming up to the end of his reign as 2008 Scottish boys' match-play champion, on Saturday achieved his highest finish yet in his freshman year on the American college golf circuit as a student at East Tennessee State University.
Making the most of a first trip to Hawaii, the 19-year-old Stewart, pictured right by courtesy of Tom Ward Photography, finished fifth in the Kauai Collegiate Cup tournament over a 6871yd, par-72 course at Kauai.
He had rounds of 73, 70 and 72 for a one-under-par total of 215 - six shots behind the winner, Logan Blondell (Georgia Southern) who scored 70, 69 and 69 for eight-under 208.
Stewart's team-mates, Seamus Power from Waterford, Paul O'Kane from Castledawson (Northern Ireland), Welshman Rhys Enoch from Cornwall, and Jordan Findlay, the former British boys champion from Fraserburgh, finished second, joint seventh, joint seventh and joint 20th respectively in a field of 64 players, as they would say in shooting terminology, "a very good grouping."
Findlay, strung three scores in the 70s together for the first time in several months, scoring 76, 74 and 73 for a total of 223 and a joint 20th place finish in a field of 64 players.
The Scots played their part in East Tennessee State tieing for the team title with Georgia Southern in a field of 11 teams.
