Call for entries to Junior Club of the
Year Awards - great prizes!
PRESS RELEASE
The Scottish Golf Union and Scotland’s junior programme clubgolf are rewarding the winner of this year’s Junior Club of the Year Awards with £1,000 for their junior programme and two places at a European Tour pro-am alongside a leading professional golfer.
The Awards, which were launched for the first time last year, are once again sponsored by Dunfermline Building Society as part of their £100,000 investment into Scottish golf. The inaugural winners were Alford Golf Club from the North East who had demonstrated a number of fantastic initiatives to promote junior golf in their community over the previous twelve months.
Winners of the 2008 Dunfermline Building Society Junior Club of the Year Awards will be presented at the Scottish Golf Dinner in March and following the success of the awards in their first year, clubgolf Project manager Torquil McInroy is looking forward to this year’s entries:
“More than fifty clubs put themselves forward last year and the standard of entries was exceptionally high. The Awards help us highlight the great work being done by clubs and their volunteers up and down the country,” said McInroy, who is delighted that 8563 children took part in clubgolf coaching programmes at clubs this year.
“We expect to see the bar being raised even further having experienced some of the initiatives being implemented in junior golf through the clubgolf programme. We are grateful to Dunfermline Building Society for their continued support of the Awards and their commitment to grass roots golf in Scotland.”
Graeme Dalziel, Chief Executive of sponsors Dunfermline Building Society, commented:
“We are very proud to support the Junior Club of the Year Awards and it was a real privilege for me to be on stage with former Tour professional Dean Robertson to present last year’s prize to the team from Alford.”
“It is vital that all golf clubs and facilities across Scotland continue to make the sport accessible to all, provide a welcome environment for youngsters coming onto the game and work with their local communities to help sustain Scotland’s position as the Home of Golf.” he added.
Entries were narrowed down to a list of six finalist nominees following the Scottish Golf Union’s judging panel’s evaluation, with West Kilbride, Turnhouse, Greenock Whinhill, Reay and Inverurie receiving runners-up awards of £300.
This year’s winners will also receive two places at a leading European Tour event pro-am whilst all clubs entering will be rewarded with a pair of adult tickets for next summer’s Scottish Open at Loch Lomond.
Entries close on Friday, February 13 with initial judging taking place at the end of February.
Entry forms will be mailed to clubs this week whilst electronic forms will be available to download and complete on both the SGU and clubgolf websites.
