CORKING ROUND OF 66 FROM
ST ANDREWS STUDENT JOHN

John Corke (St Andrews) shot a sparkling six-under-par 66 over Blairgowrie's Rosemount course in the first round of the Scottish Universities Order of Merit stroke-play golf tournament today (Monday).
Corke made the most of perfect, sunny autumn conditions to open up a two-stroke lead from Graeme Robertson (Stirling) iu the men's event.
With Scottish Under-21 girls' champion Kelsey MacDonald (Stirling), winner of the first order of merit event, otherwise engaged and Scotland international team-mate Laura Murray (Robert Gordon University) unable to play because of a bad back, Jane Turner (Robert Gordon University) stepped into the limelight.
The former Scotland girl international from Edinburgh, pictured, led the women's event with a 76 - two over the women's standard scratch for Rosemount - and carries a two-stroke lead over Ladybank's Susan Jackson (Edinburgh) into the second and final round, over the Lansdowne course, on Tuesday.
