Wales make 3-0 clean sweep of
foursomes against Scotland

Host country Wales made a promising start on home territory by leading Scotland 3-0 after the foursomes at Wrexham.
In the second match, defending champions England had to finish strongly to take a 2-1 lead over Ireland.
Sahra Hassan and Rhian Wyn Thomas gave the Welsh early momentum by beating Scotland's lead-off pairing of Kylie Walker and Kelsey MacDonald by 6 and 5.
The Welsh won four holes in a row from the second before the Scots stopped the rot by winning the sixth. That was to prove their o
nly success of the match. Hassan and Thomas won the eighth to be four uo at the turn and then the 10th and 13th for a 6 and 5 win.
Tara Davies and Stephanie Evans were 6 and 4 winners for Wales over Pamela Pretswell and Lauray Murray in the third foursome. The Welsh pair never lost a hole. They won the third, fifth, eighth and ninth to be four up at the turn. Successes at the 11th and 14th clinched a clear-cut win for Davies and Evans.
In the last Wales v Scotland foursome to finish, Breanne Loucks and Amy Boulden made it a clean sweep for Wales by beating Michele Thomson and Megan Briggs by two holes.
The Welsh pair were two holes up after nine, having won the second, fifth, seventh and eighth and losing only the third and sixth.
Thomson and Briggs won back the 13th to be only one down but Loucks and Boulden won the 14th to regain a two-hole lead and halved their way in to win by 2 and 1.
With a little bit of their traditional luck, Ireland would have won the foursomes 2-1 from England but instead the scoreline was reversed in favour of the defending champions.
After Naomi Edwards and Florentyna Parker had put the first point on the board for England by beating Gemma Hegarty and Gillian O'Leary 4 and 3, it was mighty close in the two other ties.
Elizabeth Bennett and Kerry Smith for England won the last hole to snatch a square game from Niamh Kitching and Danielle McVeigh.
In the last foursome to finish, England's teenager champion Hannah Barwood and Rachel Jennings were two down with three play against the Delaney sisters, Tara and Karen, but won the 16th and the 17th, with a birdie and halved the last for a square match to maintain England's one-point morning lead.
