Danielle McVeigh drops to jt 23rd in
Central Regional championship
Danielle McVeigh (Texas A&M) fell back from a share of 10th place to joint 23rd in the field of 108 with a second-round 78 for 149 in the NCAA Division 1 women's Central Regional championship over the University of Texas course at Austin.
Danielle's hopes of improving on her opening round of 71 over the par-72 course of 6301yd slumped when she double-bogeyed the fourth and later the long 17th. She had only one birdie, at the 12th, in halves of 40 and 38.
Ellie Givens (Denver) slid from tied 30th to tied 56th with an 80 for 154, the same 36-hole total as Lucy Gould (East Tennessee State) who improved from joint 80th with a 74.
Like Danielle McVeigh, Ellie had a 6 at the fourth and a 7 at the 14th. She did have two birdies, at the ninth and 10th, in halves of 40.
Lucy birdied the second, seventh and ninth in halves of 36 and 38.
Tara Delaney (Kent State) more or less stayed where she was in a tie for 63rd place with a 77 for 155. She had five bogeys and not a single birdie.
Compatriot Sinead O'Sullivan (East Tennessee State) had no birdies in the first round but two in the second, at the fifth and 10th, in halves of 41 and 40 for and 81 and 164. She is sharing 97th place. She marred her card with a double bogey 5 at the short eighth.
Valentine Derrey (Texas Christian) from Paris leads on seven-under-par 137 with rounds of 67 and 70.
UCLA (576) lead the team race from Purdue (582) and Texas Christian (585). The top eight teams in the field of 21 will advance to the NCAA Women's Championship.
