Australian women's open amateur match-play

Only Kerry Smith, Rachel
Jennings make last eight

Kerry Smith (Waterlooville) and Rachel Jennings (Izaak Walton) are the only two English players left in the quarter-finals of the Australian women's open amateur match-play championhip at Royal Adelaide Golf Club - and they play each other on Saturday morning for a place in the semi-finals.
Kerry Smith, the No 30 qualifier, upset the No 3 seed, Australian Rebecca Flood, beating her 4 and 3 in the first round. Then Kerry, who is not in the GB&I Curtis Cup squad, claimed the scalp of one of the Curtis Cup line-up, Florentyna Parker (Royal Birkdale), the 19th qualifier, by one hole.
Rachel Jennings, seeded sixth, beat two Australians as she progressed to the last eighth.
Fourth seed Liz Bennett (Brokenhurst Manor), one of the Curtis Cup team, surprising lost in the first round to the 20th qualifier, Australian Whitney Hillier.
English champion Naomi Edwards (Ganton), seeded 12th, beat an Australian in the morning but lost by one hole to another in the afternoon.
