Rachel Jennings through to the final

French Junior Championship

England's Rachel Jennings, from the Isaak Walton club, is through to the final of the French Junior (U21) Championship at St Cloud, Paris, this afternoon. She beat Irish girl Lisa Maguire by one hole in what must have been a very exciting tie. In the other semi-final Spain's Ane Urchegui beat her compatriot and the No1 seed, Carlota Ciganda by 2&1.
Rachel now plays Ane in the 36 hole final on Monday.
In the Claude Roger Cartier (U18) trophy, Lisa's twin sister Leona is through and will play Valentine Gevers from Germany in an 18 hole final on Monday morning.

EWGA Press Release
England international Rachel Jennings has reached the final of the French Lady Junior Championship at St Cloud and will play Spain’s Ane Urchegui for the title.
It’s the second year in a row that an English player has met a Spanish golfer in the 36-hole final of this event. Last year, Royal Birkdale’s Florentyna Parker was the victor.
Rachel, 19, from Izaak Walton in Staffordshire, reached the final with stylish play in two difficult matches. In the quarter-final she took on the tough challenge of Germany’s Caroline Masson and came through with a 2 up win.
In the semi-finals she faced the 12-year-old Irish prodigy Lisa Maguire and defeated her on the final green. It was a particularly testing match because the youngster had nothing to lose and was attracting the admiration of the crowd.
The two players were all square for most of the match but Rachel edged ahead on the 13th and then also won the 16th. The Irish girl holed bravely for a birdie on 17 to stay in the match but Rachel’s solid par on 18 halved the hole and won her a place in the final.
“Rachel has played really well,” said Linda Bayman, the performance director of the English Women’s Golf Association.
In the other, all Spanish, semi-final Ane Urchegui defeated the favourite, Carlota Ciganda by 4/3.
