JENNA WILSON GETS OFF MARK AS ROOKIE

PRO WITH VICTORY AT SPANISH FESTIVAL

Strathaven's Jenna Wilson, the reigning Scottish womens amateur golf
champion, scored her first win as a rookie professional today
at the Hacienda del Alamo Women's Winter Festival at the five-star
Murcia resort in Spain.
Jenna picked up the 300 Euros first prize with a score of 33pt in the
professional Stableford event , finishing a slender point ahead of
Marjet van der Graaff (Netherlands).
In a very tight finish in ideal conditions - no wind, quite warm and
latterly sunny - Welsh rookie Natasha Morgan finished third with 31pt.
"A fortnight here at the Festival, practising every day with a
competition every two days or so, has really brought my game forward at
a time of the year when I wold have been stagnating in Scotland," said
Jenna.
Over a Dave Thomas designed course of some 6,500yd - longer than she
will encounter on the Ladies European Tour in the coming season and
with 86 bunkers to be negotiated, Jenna birdied the first, 13th and
15th and had a gross round of 75 (39-36).
Kintore's Katie Thomson, who is being trained as a PGA pro at the
Aspire Golf Centre near Aberdeen, finished fifth with 28pt.
In the Festival's Stableford 2 amateur section, Karen Ogilvy
(Auchterarder) finished second in Class 2 with 32 pt off 16 of a
handicap - two points behind Warrenpoint youngster Tara Gribben who
plays off five.
Karen's daughter Emily, who was beaten by Jenna Wilson in last year's
Scottish womens amateur championship final, also made the trip to
Hacienda del Alamo although she will have her right shoulder - badly
dislocated in a gymnasium mishap in January - strapped up until the end
of March.
So keen is Emily to keep her game ticking over that she has been
practising one-handed shots - left hand only on the grip - at the
resort's excellent facilities.
