Birmingham University takes the glory at Wallasey

The BUSA Golf Men’s Northern Regional Strokeplay Qualifier took place over Thursday and Friday at Wallasey Golf Club in Liverpool, the location of the 2006 Open Golf Championship Qualifying, with Birmingham University taking both the Men’s and Women’s Individual Events.

With a total of 15 eagles from the 74 competitors over the two days the men’s competition was fierce with 19 Universities battling it out at the renowned Wallasey Golf Club.
Sam Riddell (Birmingham) had a consistent few days, scoring an impressive 70 in both rounds 1 and 2, finishing 4 under par and leading the field.
Daniel Sefton (Central Lancashire) equalled Riddell’s 70 on Day 1 but dropped one shot in the race behind Riddell on the second day. England under 18 Star and current leader of BUSA Golf Regional Strokeplay Qualifiers Adam Best (Teesside) joined as a fresher and played a stunning winning 67 on the first day, obtaining one eagle, 5 birdies and 10 pars over the 18 hole course. His second day performance wasn’t as good, ending up 2 over par on 74.

In the women’s event Lucy Williams (Birmingham) finished one shot ahead of Ami Storey (Northumbria) to take the qualifier with an overall total of 159. Williams is an English Women´s Golf Association’s (EWGA) Regional Select Squad member for Mid-Hertfordshire and completed the double for Birmingham University.
Lucinda Davies (Birmingham) lead the way after round one with a score of 79 but struggled on day two with a total of 83, finishing two shots behind second placed Storey.
