CATHY PANTON-LEWIS IS
CO-CAPTAIN OF WORLD
TEAM v UNITED STATES
Sunningdale-based Cathy Panton-Lewis is to be co-captain of the World Team to play the United States in the Handa Cup match over the Slammer & Squire Course at World Golf Village, St Augustine in Florida later this month.
The 12-a-side-match for over-45 professionals is organised by the LPGA Legends Tour.
Last year Cathy played in the inaugural match. This year she has been “promoted” to the sidelines – “ I will play if anyone in the World Team goes down sick at the last moment,” said Cathy who is the full-time secretary of Sunningdale Ladies Golf Club.
“I’ve never been co-captain of an international team before so I am looking forward to it.”
Cathy, a former British girls champion, won 14 tournaments between 1979 and 1988 on the forerunner of the Ladies European Tour.
Although she plays very little competitive golf these days, Mrs Panton-Lewis did manage to win this year’s Glenmuir WPGA championship with a spectacular, late birdie blitz. That's her pictured with the trophy above.
