ANNIKA'S TEAM WIN SINGLES BUT
ASIA TAKE LEXUS CUP
AGAIN BY 15-9 MARGIN
Team Asia beat Team International 15-9 to retain the Lexus Cup in the women's professional team match at The Vines Resort & Country Club, Perth in Western Australia.
Minor consolation for the Internationals and their skipper, Annika Sorenstam, was that after losing the first two days' play - foursomes (6-0) and then four-balls (3 1/2-2 1/2), they won the singles 6 1/2-5 1/2.
Only 11 of the 12 singles were played, Norway's Suzann Pettersen was unfit to play and Asia skipper Se Ri Pak was also nursing an injury so the two captains agreed to call the 12th singles tie, Pak v Pettersen, a halved match.
Catriona Matthew, pictured above, from North Berwick halved her tie against Japan's Ayako Uehara. One down on the 18th tee, the Scot square the match with a par at the last.
The ease of the Team Asia victory, their third in a row, puts a new perspective on the Solheim Cup results between United States and Europe.
