England’s Lisa (Hackney) Hall, pictured right, secured her second play-off victory of the season at the Nykredit Masters in Denmark today. The 39-year-old from Staffordshire held her nerve to par the first play-off hole, the tight, tree-lined par-four 18th at Helsingør Golf Club. She entered a three-way play-off with compatriots Kirsty Taylor and Kiran Matharu having birdied the 72nd hole to move to nine-under-par in regulation.Taylor, 36, who reached the 18th tee at 10-under, bogeyed the hole to force the play-off after her second shot from just off the fairway hit a tree and travelled just ten feet.

It was Hall’s second win of the year – and the third of her LET career. She also triumphed at the Northern Ireland Ladies Open after a marathon eight-hole play-off in June and at the 1996 Women’s Welsh Open.

"I’m jumping out of my skin right now,” said Hall, who called her mother and her husband Martin moments after securing victory.

“I was behind all day, but I knew if I stayed patient and kept giving myself chances then I would have a big chance come the end. The course was set up well for me. Today was what golf’s all about on a day that everybody played well. Everybody could have won it and it made it really exciting.”

Hall added that having her sister Emma and brother-in-law Kevin supporting her from the galleries helped spur her to victory and earn the €30,000 first prize.

A bumper crowd, bolstered by the appearance of (Danish) HRH Crown Princess Mary, split themselves between the leading groups and the final day’s play proved to be one of the finest of the season.

There was drama at the top of the leader board from the outset. Overnight leaders Taylor and Matharu began the day on six-under and managed a series of early birdies.

Hall, who started one-shot back, began with a birdie and a bogey. It was Taylor who made the best start. She shot to the top of the leader board at 10-under for the tournament after a fine run of four birdies in her opening six holes.Matharu managed back-to-back birdies on the second and third holes – the latter being inches short of a hole-in-one - and finished the front nine on eight-under.

Hall made a further three birdies on the fifth, seventh and 12th to move within a shot of Taylor. She kept up with her playing partners and compatriots Taylor and Matharu as she moved to seven-under-par after the front nine.

Taylor’s own superb form was only arrested by a double-bogey on the par-four seventh. But a birdie on the ninth gave her a one-stroke advantage going into the back nine. That slender lead lasted until the 14th hole when Matharu’s birdie sent her level at the top on nine-under.

The all-English three-ball matched each other with birdies on the 16th as the drama intensified going into the final two holes. Matharu dropped to eight-under with Hall going into the final hole after bogeying the 17th. But Taylor scuffed her second shot to ten yards and opened the gap for Hall.

Lisa will be working as a commentator for Sky Television throughout next week’s Solheim Cup in Sweden, before heading to the De Vere Ladies Scottish Open at The Carrick on Loch Lomond for her next competitive appearance in a fortnight.
