AA INSURANCE LADIES GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS
ALL-IRELAND FINALS
ATHLONE GOLF CLUB
Belvoir Park and Corrstown today progressed to the final of the Junior Cup at the expense of Templemore and The Curragh at Athlone Golf Club.
Belvoir Park’s opening player Gail Linter won her match against Templemore’s Josie Bourke on the 18th green by one hole. Pauline Bailie’s and Jenny Gibons’s great golf saw them take the lead from the first hole and allowed them wins of 4 and 2, and 4 and 3 respectively.
The opening match between Corrstown and The Curragh went in favour of The Curragh with great golf played by Patricia Cronin.
Corrstown’s Aine Wolfe leveled the affair before Judith Lynch gave the advantage to The Curragh once again. Corrstown held their nerve in the nail-biting affair, winning the last two matches on the 19th and 18th greens, thanks to Maura Sutton and Jackie Cahill.
MINOR CUP
An early win for both Rockmount and Galway Bay set the scene for a very tightly contested Minor Cup semi final which was eventually won for Rockmount by Grace Downey on the 19th green.
Dun Laoghaire face Rockmount in Sunday's final of the Minor Cup after defeating The Heath in fine style with wins by Sheila Clancy-Nolan, Martina Lee and Jo Ebbs.
Despite Gracehill’s Anne McCarroll having a very convincing 7 and 5 win, a very strong Galway Bay team claimed the four other games in fine style.
CHALLENGE CUP
The K Club defeated reigning AA Insurance Challenge Cup champions Boystown and now play locals Galway Bay in the final. Susan Newman got the K Club off to a great start with an emphatic win in the first match.
