AA INSURANCE LADIES GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS ALL-IRELAND FINALS
ATHLONE GOLF CLUB
September 28 to 30.

DONABATE PROGRESS TO FINALS

Irish legend Mary McKenna, with playing partner Fionnuala Forde, secured Donabate’s victory over Wicklow in the semi-final and will now face Larne in the All-Ireland final of the Senior Foursomes at the 2007 AA Insurance Ladies Golf Championships, Athlone Golf Club on Sunday.
Donabate exited the blocks quickest with Pat Doran and Aileen Hanratty setting up the win with a fine 4 and 2 win over Wicklow’s Jackie Kavanagh and Mary Copeland.
In the second semi-final, Larne overcame a strongly fancied Galway side. Larne’s top match pairing of Roma English and Carole McMaw had a tight match before winning by one hole on the 18th against Sheelagh Kearney and Jo Price.

The semi-finals of the Intermediate Cup saw East Cork beating City of Derry 4-1. East Cork won three matches with Caroline O’Connor, Deirdre Harte and Valerie McCarthy defeating Esther Milligan, Betty McBride and Veronica Burke respectively to secure the victory while the remaining matches on the course were called in.
Enniscorthy sent Dublin City home and now face East Cork in Sunday’s final.
In a tight match, Enniscorthy’s Eimear McGrath had a fine 5 and 4 win against Sheila Stone while Dublin City’s Grace O’Neill levelled the match by beating Elizabeth Browne 6 and 4. Enniscorthy then notched up two wins on the trot by Stellah Sinnott and Lori Whitney to secure their place in the final.
In the Junior Foursomes, Gort beat Omagh in a nail-biting affair, with Gort winning the first match on the 20th hole and the third match on the 19th courtesy of Teresa Gill/Josephine Cummins and Maureen Brennan/Margaret Whelan respectively.
Meanwhile Omagh’s second pairing of Margaret Barton and Dolores Duddy were in the clubhouse with a 3 and 1 victory under their belt.
Enniscorthy’s duo of teams are now in the finals with their Junior Foursomes team defeating DunLaoghaire with a decisive 3-0 victory.
Action continues on Saturday with the semi-finals of the Junior, Minor and Challenge Cups taking centre stage.
