HOLLY AITCHISON WINS LIPHOOK SCRATCH
CUP WITH TOURNAMENT RECORD LOW
Holly Aitchison, 20-year-old member at The Bedfordshire Golf Club, followed up her wins in the Portuguese women's open amateur championship and, more recently, the St Andrews Junior Leadies Open, with victory in the 16th Liphook Scratch Cup, hosted by Liphook Golf Club in Hampshire.
A top class field of 57 took to the course in perfect playing conditions – a windless, warm day on the Hampshire/Sussex border.
Last minute withdrawals, including the holder, Henni Brockway, with a bad back, and some of the Hampshire county team suffering from their battle with Yorkshire at the county finals at Brokenhurst during the week, did not diminish the very high standard of play and excellent scoring.
Charlie Douglass set the early pace with a morning round of 66. But it was Holly Aitchison who put together two sub-70 rounds, coming in with an event record score of 134. Her afternoon round of 65 equalled the ladies’ course record set by Henni Brockway last year.
LEADING FINAL TOTALS
Par 144 (2 x 72). CSS 72 73.
134 Holly Aitchison (The Bedfordshire) 69 65.
137 Charlie Douglass (Brocket Hall) 66 71.
138 Hannah Barwood (Knowle) 68 70.
140 Hannah Ralph (Cowdray Park) 69 71.
142 Charlotte Ellis (Minchinhampton) 70 72.
145 Georgina Hunt (Lewes) 74 71.
