Scottish women's county championship finals

DUNBARTONSHIRE & ARGYLL BEAT
DUMFRIES-SHIRE, ABERDEENSHIRE
AND MIDLOTHIAN DRAW

Dunbartonshire & Argyll sit at the top of the table at the end of the first day of the Scottish women’s county golf championship finals at Tulliallan Golf Club. They beat Dumfries-shire 5 ½-3 ½ after taking a 2pt lead in the foursomes.
Aberdeenshire and Midlothian drew 4 ½-4 ½ after Midlothian had established a 2-1 lead in the morning foursomes.
Dumfries-shire hit back in the singles after losing the foursomes 2 ½- ½ . Sara Bishop had increased Dunbartonshire & Argyll’s lead to 3pt by beating Diane Macdonald by 6 and 4.
But then Lindsey Kirkwood, Jordana Graham and Fiona McGregor delivered three singles points in success for Dumfries-shire by beating Louisa Ruane, Jill Meldrum and Jill Foggo respectively.
The D&A tail had to wag to save the day and it did with Judy Galbraith beating Trish Lilly 7 and 5 while former Scottish champion Anne Laing won by 6 and 5 over Margaret McGregor.
Youngsters Michele Thomson, pictured above, and Laura Murray, both selected to play for Scotland in the forthcoming women’s home internationals, turned up trumps for Aberdeenshire by winning the top and the bottom singles.
Michele beat Rachael Livingstone by 3 and 2 while Laura beat Claire MacDonald on the 18th green.
Claire Hargan had beaten Carol Wilson in the No 2 singles tie to give Midlothian a 3-2 lead.
Then followed three halved matches, underlining just how close a contest this was. Sheena Wood halved with Wendy Nicholson, Sara Thomson halved with Belinda Murphy and Laura McLardy had a square game with Karen Marshall.
That meant it all depended on the sixth and final singles tie with Murray securing a drawn outcome for Aberdeenshire by beating MacDonald by one hole.
