Irish Ladies Golf Union Press Release
2007 SUZUKI SENIOR CUP ALL-IRELAND FINALS
MILLTOWN GOLF CLUB
August 31 and September 1
The five district champions, Carlow, Co Louth, Ennis, Galway and Royal Portrush, join this year’s back-door graduates, Laytown & Bettystown, Kilkenny and Roscommon, in the national quarter-finals of the 2007 Suzuki Senior Cup at Milltown Golf Club on Friday, August 31.
Current international Deirdre Smith leads 2002 champions and No 1 seeds Co Louth into battle against an unknown quantity in Roscommon who field Connacht champion Ailbhe Farrell and girl international Anne McCormack in their ranks.
Helen Jones once again leads second seeds Royal Portrush in a most interesting tie with a young Kilkenny side, ably led by double-1990s Irish champion Eileen Rose Power.
In the third quarter-final, past-international Wickham sisters Phil and Carol join a Laytown & Bettystown side who will fancy their chances against a Carlow team under-strength from the return of sisters Karen and Tara Delaney to college in the USA.
The last tie pits Connacht champions Galway, for whom girl international Sarah Faller will shine, face Southern champions Ennis, which sees the 2005 and 2006 Irish champion Tricia McDonnell make a welcome return to competitive golf.
All four quarter-finals will be played next Friday after which an open draw for the semi-final pairings will be made at the tournament dinner that evening.
Whatever the outcome of the first day’s play, Saturday is sure to see a feast of competitive golf for the ILGU’s blue-ribboned Senior Cup as the cream of elite club golf descend on Milltown for the weekend.
Play for the weekend is:
