CZECH-MATE FOR SCOTS GIRLS IN OSLO RAIN
Scotland suffered another disappointment on the third day of the European girls' team championship at a very wet Oslo Golf Club, Norway.
After failing to qualify for the championship flight, the Scots were beaten 3-2 by the Czech Republic and the highest position they can now achieve in the final standings is 13th.
In all fairness, it was a dreadful day for golf. Heavy rain forced a 1 1/2hr suspension of play. The organising committee decided to reduce the afternoon singles to nine holes, which made it a bit of a lottery and not what you would expect in a European championship.
The Scots shared the morning foursomes 1-1 in which Carly Booth and Kelsey MacDonald were beaten 3 and 2 but Krystle Caithness and Sally Watson levelled matters, winning by the same margin.
In the abbreviated singles, Carly scored a 4 and 2 win but Sally Watson lost by 3 and 1 and Krystle Caithness went down by 2 and 1.
England, also competing in Flight 2, beat Iceland 4-1 and Ireland beat Finland 3-2.
Wales lost 5-0 to Portugal in Flight 3.
