Four share lead in Ladies' English Open

CLARE QUEEN BEATS CUT WITH NOTHING
TO SPARE AFTER TRIPLE BOGEY AT FIRST

Clare Queen survived a triple bogey 8 at the first hole to beat the cut with nothing to spare in the Ladies English Open championship at Chart Hills Golf Club, Kent.
Clare birdied the ninth to turn in 40 and another birdie, at the 15th, was to prove vital in getting the Carrick at Cameron House player into the weekend action.
Miss Queen had rounds of 73 and 79 for 152.
Lynn Kenny (Archerfield) shot 76 and 74 for 150.
But Kathryn Imrie (Monifieth) missed out by one stroke with 75 and 78. Kathryn had a double bogey 6 at the eighth.
Liz McKinnon, the Inverness-based New Zealander, failed by a long way with roundes of 83 and 79 for 162.
At the top of the leaderboard, it promises to be a keenly contested finish to the tournament. Overnight leader, Linda Wessberg (Sweden) crashed down the field, slumping from 66 to 78 and 144.
Two Welsh players are among the quartet contesting the lead on three-under-par 141 - Becky Brewerton and Eleanor Pilgrim. Cecilia Ekelundh (Sweden) and England's Karen Stupples make up the four pacemakers.
Only a shot behind them are two players very capable of swooping to conquer - Gwladys Nocera (France) and England's Laura Davies.
