IMPRESSIVE START BY FIFE AS THEY BEAT
STIRLING & CLACKMANNAN 8-1
Scottish champions Fife made an impressive start to their defence of the East Division women’s inter-county team golf championship at Ladybank Golf Club today.
They whipped Stirling & Clackmannan 8-1 while Midlothian were beating East Lothian 5 ½-3 ½ in the other contest on the opening day.
Fife swept the foursomes 3-0 and then Fiona Lockhart, Louise Kenney, Jocelyn Carthew, Lorna Bennett and Elaine Moffat added singles wins.
Midlothian and East Lothian shared the points from the three morning foursomes. Midlothian took the singles 4-2 with wins by Claire Hargan, Wendyu Nicholson, Belinda Murphy and Claire Macdonald.

Foursomes: K Brotherton, E Fairnie bt C Hargan, R Livingstone 3 and 1; L Nicholson, J Smith halved with K Marshall, F de Vries; F Prior, L Mortensen lost to J Turner, C Macdonald 4 and 3 (1 ½-1 ½).
Singles: Brotherton lost to Hargan 3 and 2, L Nicholson bt Livingstone 6 and 5, Prior lost to W Nicholson 6 and 4; Mortensen lost to B Murphy 3 and 2; Smith lost to MacDonbald 4 and 3; Fairnie bt Marshall 2 and 1 (2-4).
