HEATHER BLOOMS IN NORTHERN VETS FINAL BY BEATING SCOTS CHAMPION KATHLEEN

Downfield Golf Club member Heather Anderson, beaten in the semi-finals of the Angus women’s county golf championship earlier this season, won the Northern veteran women’s championship at Panmure Barry Golf Club today.
Heather, making her debut in the veterans’ area championship, having returned to Scotland from Shropshire a few months ago, had a notable win in the final over Kathleen Sutherland (Royal Montrose), the leading qualifier for the match-play stages at Panmure Barry on Monday and winner of the Scottish veteran women’s title last year.
Heather, the No 2 seed, who had squeezed through at the 19th against Sue McGregor in the morning semi-finals, beat Kathleen by one hole.
Ann Meldrum (Murcar Links) won the Bronze Division championship by beating Cathy Clark (Aberdeen Ladies) 3 and 2 in the final.
