VIKKI DOUBLES HER MONEY WITH JT THIRD
FINISH AT KANSAS CITY CHAMPIONSHIP
The improving Vikki Laing doubled her money from seven events on the US Futures Tour this season to $6,640 by finishing joint third on Sunday in the Mercedes-Benz of Kansas City Championship over a very tough 6,277yd, par-72 course at Leawood South Country Club.
Vikki, from Musselburgh but resident in America since her four years at the University of California Berkeley, earned $3,920 for scoring 71, 74 and 75 for a seven-over-par total of 220 over what was, by common consent, the toughest course the Futures Tour has visited this year – thick rough, narrow fairways, hard greens.
Former US Curtis Cup player Liz Janangelo from West Hartford beat former LPGA Tour player Emily Bastel from Ohio at the third extra hole of a play-off to take the $11,200 top prize after they had tied on four-over 217 at the end of three rounds.
Janangelo, who played for the US against GB&I at Formby in 2004, had rounds of 70, 71 and 76, was scoring her second win of the season. She tops the Futures Tour money table with $28,526. Bastel, a former LPGA Tour player, scored 70, 75 and 72. Her pay cheque was for $8,000.
