JODI EWART FINISHES 50TH IN NCAA

WOMEN'S DIVISION 1 CHAMPIONSHIP

AS STACY LEWIS SWEEPS TO CONQUER

Stacy Lewis (Arkansas) produced a brilliant last round of six-under-par 66 to win the NCAA Division 1 women's individual championship by four shots at LPGA International's Legends Course, Daytona Beach in Florida.

Stacy, pictured right, had scores of 71, 71, 74 and 66 for a six-under-par total of 282 over the 6,351yd, par-72 course.

Joint runners-up on 286 were the Dutch girl and sometime tournament leader, Christel Boeljohn (Purdue), who is playing in the British women's open amateur championship at Alwoodley, Leeds next month, and Paola Moreno (Southern California).

Christel scored 72, 69, 69 and 76, including a double-bogey 6 at the last, which exaggerated Stacy Lewis's winning margin.

Paola had 73, 72, 70 and 71.

In her great title-winning last round Stacy Lewis had birdies at the second, fourth and then five in a row from the 10th to the 14. She did have one bogey, at the 17th.

US Curtis Cup player and top-ranked individual Amanda Blumenherst (Duke) finished fourth on 289 with 70, 73, 74 and 72.

Yorkshire's Jodi Ewart, who had a tremendous freshman year at New Mexico University, never got to grips with this one. She tied for 50th place on 306 with scores of 76, 76, 79 and 75 and had the same total as the defending champion from the Netherlands, Dewi Schreefel (Southern California).

Duke, the favourites, retained the team title with 1170 from Purdue (1185) and UCLA (1186).
