BRITAIN MARCH CLOSER TO COMMONWEALTH
TITLE BY BEATING NZ IN SOUTH AFRICA
Britain continued their march towards a first Commonwealth Tournament triumph since 1991 when they beat New Zealand 6 1/2-1/2 to maintain their 100 per cent record at the end of the third day of the women's amateur international team event, played every four years, at Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club today (Wednesday).
Britain took the foursomes 1 1/2-1/2 and then the singles 5-0.
Krystle Caithness from Cellardyke, Fife, the only Scot in the six-strong British team, won her singles by 4 and 3 against Yeon Song Kim.
South Africa beat Canada 4 1/2-2 1/2 in the other match.
Britain, topping the all-play-all league table with three wins out of three, have a rest day on Thursday before coming back into action in the final programme on Friday when they play the host nation, South Africa.
